Hi everyone.
So it's been nearly two weeks since I got the Iphone 4S. In that time I've learned a lot, and have also obtained an Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard, which has made my life a great deal easier when typing. I've just purchased pages also so that I may work on my writing while I'm out and about. Now, I've used JAWS and other similar PC screen readers all my life. So far voice over seems to work quite nicely for me, but there are certain thigns that stump me.
When I'm reading a document in Pages (and in any text editer so far for that matter) I've noticed there appears to be no way to read by paragraph, or from the cursor position to end. I really don't mind reading by line sometimes, but I find it a little slow. SOmetimes you just have to read by paragraph. Is there any way at all to do this? I know taht on web pages ans, paragraphs often act as "elements" which can easily be navigated either by swiping or using the appropriate keyboard command. But in Pages, the text often acts as either a single element, or the elements will separate at strange intervals - such as in the middle of a sentense. Is pages really just not the best option for editing .doc files, or am I really doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated, because aside from this, I really am enjoying using this technology.
For that matter, is there any way to scroll down by page in pages or in any other application, and scroll left and right in applications that require it using the keyboard? I know it can easily be done via touch screen.
Well the phone is not a computer. Smile. Voice Over has limitations.
Also read the manual. There is a section on editing, but I don't think it covers your question. You can call Apple direct and they will tell you.
I never use mine for such heavy things.I get on my laptop if out. Lol
Go to setting; general; accessibility; seeing; voiceover;
There you will find something call rotor. turn it on, if its off, and on rotor setting, select the things that you want voiceover to speak it, e.g. word, line, paragraph, heading, and stuff. What rotor does is basicly allow you to navigate to things quickly, like heading, lines, paragraphs, etc etc.
Ones you done that, you can then choose to navigate to certain items by going to the rotor, which is like a diling/twisting justure with two fingers on the screen.
Also, a good site to look at information like that is
http://www.applevis.com
good luck
Thanks for telling me about the roter options. I knew about it, but forgot to check there. Paragraphs sadly isn't an option. I have actually checked Applevis quite extensively, but while it's great for many things, it hasn't found what I was looking for. Also I generally do use my laptop for writing nearly everything. But sometimes when you're out on the road, or waiting around, you just have that idea come to you, and you just have to get it down. I'm a little anal about formatting, I admit that.
You can use the voice memo feature to get these quick ideas down, or the note feature.
